Spending Affordability Committee Recommendation Out of Line
Montgomery County Republican Chairman Michael Higgs criticized the decision Wednesday by the General Assembly’s Spending Affordability Committee to recommend that next year’s state budget be allowed to grow by 4%. Details
“Maryland’s badly misnamed ‘Spending Affordability Committee’ continues the state along an unsustainable path that will likely lead to higher taxes.”
Higgs noted that on Thursday the Federal Government had reported that Maryland personal income grew in the past year by only 2% and that both Social Security beneficiaries and Federal workers were expecting even lower cost of living increases in the coming year.
Said Higgs: “Letting our state budget grow faster than actual Maryland incomes will produce more pressure for future tax increases. The state needs to spend less.”
