Greetings Fellow Republicans and Central Committee Members, and Happy New Year!

MichaelHiggsI hope that you all had a great (or at least restful!) time on New Year’s Eve, and that you are ready to get to work making 2014 a year to remember.  As we enter an election year without any Presidential-level distractions, we find ourselves faced with a tremendous opportunity.

The disaster that is Obamacare, the as-yet untold story of Benghazi, the unprecedented NSA, IRS and DOJ encroachments on individual liberty, and Obama’s plummeting polling data (and the list goes on) are all setting the stage for a national wave election of epic proportions. Here in Maryland we see even Independents and Democrats decrying the ever increasing burden of taxes and regulation; however they are still not holding their elected officials’ feet to the fire. We need to remind voters: who is responsible for the Rain Tax; who is responsible for the Gas Tax and the skyrocketing cost of electricity; and who is responsible for causing an exodus of the most productive businesses and members of our State’s economy.

Fundraising:

This is why our number one priority this coming year will be to raise more money. We represent one of the 10 richest counties in America, and we need to do a better job of reaching out to donors who presently only give to the national party and campaigns. With increased funding we will be able to better help our campaigns by providing sample ballots and other marketing materials vital to their success.

Campaigns:

Speaking of campaigns, we still have some vacancies for the upcoming election that need to be filled. Please help us to identify and recruit candidates. While we have a great many excellent individuals running, we are falling short of our goal of running candidates in every race. We need your help!

Headquarters:

You will see over the next couple of months many changes to the look and feel of our headquarters. We are cleaning out all outdated and extraneous paper, faded and shabby décor, and non-functional equipment and furniture. We are going to focus on making our HQ more inviting, accessible and useful to our campaigns and volunteers. We will do what we can to improve our space with existing resources until we succeed in our fundraising goals and embark on much needed capital improvements.

Meetings:

We will hold Executive Board meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month beginning at 7:30pm.  Executive Committee meetings will take place on the 4th Tuesday of every month beginning at 7pm. Executive Committee meetings are for all intents and purposes meetings of the full Central Committee, except that attendance is not mandatory. I would like to encourage greater participation at these meetings from Central Committee members and our grassroots activists. When we all gather in the same place we can be more effective in sharing ideas and enthusiasm. Note that our County Convention in February will take the place of our regularly scheduled Executive Committee meeting that month.

Committee Assignments:

A New Year brings about new opportunities to get involved! I want to see every member of the Central Committee get actively involved in at least one committee or undertaking of the MCGOP. We could also use the help and active support of our faithful volunteers for Central Committee undertakings. I understand all too well the burdens so many of you face with work, family and other commitments. But our work here is far too important. Please, please, please include in your New Year’s resolutions something about recommitting to the causes of Liberty and Prosperity. Help us work to end the one-party hegemony that serves to squeeze the life out of our economy. Help us build and grow a party in which we can all be proud.

Thank you for all you have done in 2013. I have seen our grassroots outreach efforts and event planning make tremendous strides in my time on the Central Committee, and I am grateful for all of the hard work so many of you have put into our Party. We have exciting things in store for 2014, and we need your help. With the energetic support of our membership, I believe that we will accomplish great things.
