MichaelHiggsGreetings Fellow Montgomery County Republicans, Can you feel it?

That rush of conservative enthusiasm washing over the country like so many waves on the Eastern Shore. Obama’s numbers have never been lower, but are still trending downward. The healthcare disaster is hitting Maryland harder than in most states. More and more Americans are waking up to the government’s encroachment into their Constitutional rights and individual liberties. 2014 will not merely be a “wave” election, it is shaping up to be a tidal wave.

The question you must ask yourself is, “what role am I going to play?” Are you going to sit on the sidelines, hoping for the best? Or are you going to get involved? Are you going to make a difference? Our Founding Fathers did not sit at home griping about the British trampling their rights. They organized their friends and neighbors; they took to the streets, and they sent the mighty British Empire scurrying back across the ocean and up into Canada.

Now is the time for patriots to stand up and make their voices heard. Stand up to the tyranny of the statists, the central planners, those who would see us subjugated to the will of government elites. If not now, then when? The defense of liberty is rarely convenient or comfortable. But it has never been more necessary than now.

Aside from military service, there is no greater civic duty than seeking public office to serve the people. We are looking for talented and motivated citizens who have a passion for freedom; citizens who believe that free markets bring about prosperity for all; citizens who are fed up with self-serving, cynical politicians who seek to control people for the benefit of their allies and cronies.

If this describes you, please consider running for office here in Montgomery County. We have openings for several state and county legislative offices that need to be filled. We can no longer permit the unaccountable princelings of the Democrat party to run for offices in Montgomery County unopposed; we must give the people a choice.
Please send me an email if you might consider a run for office.

The MCGOP will be hosting a potential candidates’ forum on Saturday, January 25 at our headquarters. Please consider attending to learn about what it takes to file and run for office, and what resources are available to assist in your campaign. Note that the filing deadline is February 25. In addition to candidates, we also need people to serve as campaign treasurers, managers and volunteers. Now is the time to get involved.

Speaking of getting involved, mark your calendars now to attend the Montgomery County Republican Party Convention on the morning of Saturday, February 8, at the Gaithersburg Hilton. More details to be provided in the next edition of the newsletter and on our calendar of events. It is shaping up to be a fabulous program, and a great opportunity to meet and mingle with some of the 125,000+ Republicans in our county. I look forward to seeing you there!

Michael Higgs,
Montgomery County Republican Chairman
